HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNICIAN   SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:   * Manages incoming digital faxes, including requests for medication refills, discharge summaries (hospitals,  emergency department visits, and inpatient stays) and requests from durable medical equipment companies.  * Reviews faxes and assigns them to applicable patient record by category of information. * Forwards faxes to nursing or appropriate provider. * Performs referral tracking functions, which include making appointments, sending requests for records, sending follow-up letters and changing the status of the referral. * Other duties and responsibilities as directed or assigned.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   * At least three (3) years of health information experience, or an associate’s degree and two (2) years of health information experience. * Health care experience may include medical records, clinical care, or information technology.  * A certification or associate’s degree in a health care field is desirable.  * Specialized training in the acquisition, transmission, storage, and retrieval of health care information is required.
