Technical Director / Team Leader – Stormwater Shape the Future of Stormwater Infrastructure Babbage is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Technical Director or Team Leader to strengthen our stormwater capability and help deliver a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects. The Opportunity This is more than a project delivery role. We’re looking for a recognised stormwater specialist who can provide technical leadership across complex projects, act as a trusted advisor to clients and help grow our stormwater capability. You’ll oversee projects from inception through design and delivery, providing leadership across scope, programme, budget, risk and quality. You’ll work closely with local authorities, developers, contractors and key stakeholders while mentoring engineers and contributing to strategic business decisions. Whether you’re currently working in consulting, local government or the wider water sector, this role offers the opportunity to influence both major project outcomes and the direction of our growing Infrastructure business. What You’ll Be Doing * Lead the planning, design and delivery of complex stormwater infrastructure projects * Deliver stormwater networks, outfalls, inlet and outlet structures, energy dissipation structures, culverts and treatment devices * Act as a trusted advisor, helping clients shape project strategy and long-term infrastructure outcomes * Provide technical oversight, review and quality assurance across project teams * Build strong relationships with local authorities, developers, contractors and key stakeholders * Oversee project scope, programme, budget, risk and quality * Mentor and develop engineers across varying levels of experience * Contribute to proposals, client engagement and market development * Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions * Promote technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement What You’ll Bring * A tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering * At least 15 years of water infrastructure experience, preferably within New Zealand * CPEng status, or nearing the application stage * Significant stormwater planning, design and project delivery experience * Strong hydraulic design capability across stormwater assets * Established client relationships and stakeholder management experience * Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and influencing project outcomes * Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of project delivery drivers * Practical problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgement * A passion for mentoring engineers and contributing to team success Why Babbage At Babbage, you’ll join a highly capable 3 Waters team working alongside specialists from across our multidisciplinary business.
